What is a good wine that would help me to develop a taste for it?

Have 12 World-Class Reds Delivered Direct To Your Door w/ $125 Savings

I have never liked wine, but I would really like to be able to at least socially have a glass when I go out. Can you please recommend a good wine that will help me to develop a taste for it? I don’t care if it’s a white or red wine (but I think that chilled wine will go over better for me), and I’d rather pay a bit more and get something that I like than buying something cheap and really hating it.

Thanks for your help!!

For my wife’s sake, I’ve tried and tried to like wine. I’ve tried red wines and white wines with no taste for either. Then we went to a couple of wineries and I asked them what they would recommend and they were really helpful.

If I were you, I would find a winery and try there. You can taste lots of different wines with different tastes and the people that work there can answer your questions because I’m sure they get that question a lot.

Try light, sweeter, fruity wines. Many people start out with white zinfandel or rose. They aren’t sophisticated, but a great place to start weaning yourself in. (Rose isn’t a varietal of grape, it’s a blend combined to be pink, light and fruity) Feel free to ask your waiter or liquor store manager to suggest a light, fruity wine on the sweet side and they’ll be a huge help. Sparkling rose, often called pink champagne, is another good one to try. Next I’d try a very light chardonnay on the sweeter side(drinkable ones aren’t cheap) or a maybe a shiraz (decent ones can be very cheap…yippee!). From there I’d trip thorugh red and white varieties of pinots and you’re off! You may work your way up to malbecs and merlots eventually, or you may be like many other people and stick with the popular ligher wines.

Stay away from overly sweet desert wines like certain rieslings at first because they won’t help you develop a taste for regular wine, and your goal sounds like you want to be able to drink wine socially with meals.

You could also try ordering drinks that are only partially made with wine, like white wine spritzers. You get some wine tempered with seltzer and it’s a good low calorie option. Sangria is another good option, it’s sweetened red wine combined with fruit juice and is yummy. You’ll just look like you’re drinking a glass of red wine, but be carefull because due to the sweetness it can pack a surprising alcohol punch.

I love white merlot or zinfandel. Hope this helps. I hate red wine but will drink it occasionally. White wine is not so bad. I tend to like the sweet ones

A good Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio would be an excellent start. A big fan of Chardonnay here, but you might really like the pinot better.

Much better to find some friends who don’t make you feel bad for not liking wine. If you don’t like it, then that’s your right. Just drink cola or water or something. Or perhaps try beer or cider. Or a shandy, which is a mix of beer and lemonade. Yummy.

Very difficult question to answer as it all really depends on your palate, everybody likes different tastes.

a really good allrounder for people that don’t really drink is something like asti spumante- its a fizzy white wine which is very sweet and very lo-alcohol too
Rose- mateus rose- popular for 30+ years with ladies who don’t really drink
as for red, a lot of newer french grapes have a very ‘light’ flavour, but if you are not a wine drinker too much of this might be hard on your stomach!

    good luck!!

A good quality pink champagne or sparkling burgundy, a spaetlese(very sweet) or frontignac, a good reisling.

I hate wine and I really don’t wanna "try" to like it!

If you like something sweet, try the Ice Wine (usually comes in slim bottles).
Else, one of my favourite is the Australian Black Swan Shiraz.

Black Tower the white wine is good, I am the same normally drink cider but wanted to cut the calories a little so started on this and its yummy, a proper wino now I am lol

Stay away from the Zinfandel. It will give you a bad hangover, and is considered the wine of choice for those that don’t know any better.
I like a Riesling. It is white and has a smooth taste. Also a Chenin Blanc is smooth… also white.
For Red, that’s harder. It’s a little strong for me, but Pinot Noir is a good choice to sip.
If you have a chance to catch a wine tasting at a restuarant… take it. You’ll learn alot about wine

    Sweet B*@#$. It’s a wine

  • ? LaLa Land ?

beringer’s white zinfandel is ‘respectable’, inexpensive and sweet enough for a beginner to enjoy. (it’s a ‘fun’pink) 12-15$

Santa Margarhita’s Pinot Grigio is a top of the (basic, anyway) line white, pricier but classy, not as sweet as a zin, but a nice smoother -not a beginner – wine. 20-25$

my fave red ,so far, is Gabiano’s Chianti. it’s not expensive , it’s a dry-dry ,suck the moisture right out of you tongue, red. it makes me warm and happy. – around 15$

You can check out 90+ rated wines pn wine .com or pick up a copy of win spectator and do some reading. I reccomend that you attend a wine tasting event. You need to find what you like not what others tell you to like.
I reccomend going with the kendall jacksons or the Robert Mondavi if you want decent name brands and you dont yet have the experience to compare and find better lower priced wines.

My first sip on red wine was 9 years back, I hated it.
I start to wonder why are some people enjoyed this fermented grape juice so much, and thats really draw my curiosity in wine by walk into a wine retail store and start seeking advise from the retail wine adviser. He gave me a bottle of light, sweet late harvest gewurztraminer from S.African…. I get really impressed with the taste of it and i been keep buying the same wine as a after dinner drink for nearly a month.
After that, i start all over again on red wine, from the cheapest price to the moderate price wine(of course gain the advise from the retail shop adviser also)… and sometimes back i start to understand the value behind the price i pay for because your taste bud could tell you.
And i ended up in a wine business now. Hope the above could help, cheers!
