Drinking a chilled bottle of Turning Leaf Wine right now and it’s not very good for someone who doesn’t like the strong alcohol back flavor. Doctor suggested 4 ounces of wine a day with each meal and the wine does make my stomach feel much better, but the alcohol back flavor isn’t very good. What would be a good wine to drink without getting the back flavor?

There is this cheap giant bottle of I think Ernest and Julio Gallo and it ‘s called "Paisano". Very smooth, not too strong. And cheap!

Le Creama chardonnay slightly chilled is nice and suites a lot of different tastes. If you would like to try some bubbley try Wilson creek almond champagne it’s the sparkling wine for people that don’t like sparkling wine.

Well, do you like sweeter wines?

If you do, I recommend a rosé…like a California White Zinfandel. Ernest & Julio Gallo make a great one!

If your doctor recommended you drink red, then ask for a wine with few tannins. Tannins are from the skin of the grape and give you that dry mouth, boozy taste.

Stick to a lighter bodied wine, such as pinot noir (so yummy) or a Beaujolais Nouveau (BN is usually only available at the end of November so you may have some trouble finding it right now).

There are some mild Merlots as well.

Absolutely no Shiraz…to strong for you.

I don’t like much of a alcohol flavor myself so pretty much the only one I like to drink is Arbor Mist – Strawberry White Zinfandel . It’s pretty sweet with not too much alcohol flavor.

Maybe try a wine cooler or mix the wine with a little fruit juice to make a cocktail so you can drink it down easier.

There are some good local Texas wines I like too but they are hard to find. http://www.twinspringswinery.com/wines.php

You might go to a local winery if you have any and do a wine tasting. You can ask tons of questions and at least find out what your taste is and they may point you in the right direction.

You should try white zinfandel by Arbor Mist (I think is the brand name) anyway, they have different flavors like strawberry, and exotic fruit, etc. The fruit flavor taste great and hides the alcohol taste; it also taste good cold or room temp, i perfer it cold!

Unlike you, I prefer a wine where I can taste the alcohol (but of course with other flavors and scents as well). Like you, when I moved to North Carolina five years ago (I was raised in northern California just south of Napa and Sonoma), I found that most of my new friends didn’t like the same wines I did.

Tasting the wines they prefer, I’ve discovered a great secret from North Carolina – wines made from scuppernong/muscadine grapes. Not only are they quite sweet, they tend to be a little lower in alcohol compared to more traditional California and French wines. Adding the the appeal, the scuppernong/muscadine grape contains a phenol compound called Resveratrol, believed by a lot of people to be the healthiest part of the wine. You might Google that term to see what others with way more credentials have to say.

If you believe this may be for you, look for North Carolina wines by Dennis Vineyards in Albemarle NC or by Duplin Vineyards in Rose Hill NC. You don’t indicate the state in which you live, and depending on which state, you may or may not be able to get them to ship directly.
