Wine storage,My daughter was born new years eve last year, and I would like to get a champagne or wine of very high quality to store until her 21st birthday as a gift. I was thinking dom perignon, but I don’t know if I should buy the vintage now or wait until her year comes out. Does anybody have any other suggestions? I know how to store wine and have the means to do so but I’m still uneducated on what to buy.

you have to keep the bottle stored at a certain temp. Here is an article i found on line. I read it and it says even the best champagne you can expect to go bad after about 10 years. Maybe consider a nice expensive scotch or whiskey? I know thats not a typical girl drink but atleast that will age properly and you dont have to worry about it going bad.

It won’t get cheaper so I’d get it as soon as it comes out.
Dom Perignon is fine champagne but there are others. Roederer Crystal is wonderful as it Taittenger.
If you want the fanciest name then go for the Dom.
PS: Dom Perignon is the name of the monk who is credited with inventing champagne. I bet he was quite the partier!

Here is my suggestion: Visit one or more reputable wine merchants and ask the sommelier for a recommendation. It’s not against the rules to specify a price range. Be sure you’re not talking to just a cashier or sales person. Once you tell him or her what you want to do with the wine you’ll get a recommendation within your budget. Remember, though, that the wine should be stored within certain temperature ranges, away from light, and not moved much. The recommendation will probably be to store it on it’s side. This isn’t something you can stick on a shelf in the garage, etc. Good luck with it because it sounds like a great idea. Maybe buy a couple of bottles or more. One for her wedding day as well and maybe for your 50th anniversary, etc.
