Wine storage,Okay, so I’m a little confused now.
I want to start collecting wine – not for the money or for being a passionate wine taster, but because of the emotion: you see, one of the greatest gifts my father ever gave me was a fine bottle of wine which had been made the year I was born!!
I want to be able to do the same for my own children. I already have a wine cellar with the right storage facility and temperature, but… how to choose the right type of wine? I don’t really care if the wine is a red, a white, a port, a fruity one etc., I just need it to stay good for 20-30 years.
Say, can I just go to the store and by a regular bottle of .00 and then store it?
.
Additional question: How long can a wine you make at home last? Or what is the BEST method/ recipe for a long-living homemade wine??

you absolutely cannot do this with about 95% of the wine at any liquor store. There are VERY few wines that will keep for that long and it’s going to run you at least 200$. Google for more information on wine spectator, I don’t know the names but I can absolutely guarantee you there are very few wines that will keep, and things that restaurants have will NOT be designed to keep because they go through so much wine and most restaurants buy consignment or they just buy from a store and they do not cellar because its too much of a hassle and they go through so much wine.

I think the best way to start, is when you go out for dinner, and have a nice bottle of wine, seek it out and buy youself 6 of them, and store them, and just continue doing this, you could also have a day at a winery, there really isn’t any point in just buying some plonk and keeping it, if you don’t know what it’s like, most decent wines will keep pretty well, except young wines that are meant to be used fairly quickly like reisling etc
