1. Drill holes in the walls a few inches from the ceiling to open each space between wall studs, and have foam insulation injected.
2. Apply sheets of foam insulation to the ceiling.
3. Purchase a small wall unit chiller unit with cubic capacity slightly higher than closet and install in a wall where the outside of it is in as convenient a location as possible, but still in an air-conditioned space. (No garage or outside exposure!)
4. Replace door with insulated door, or buy hollow door and fill spaces with injected foam.
5. Install wall-mounted wine racks, insuring that they are screwed into the wall studs.
6. Turn on chiller and adjust to 58 degrees F.
7. place plastic container (such as kitchen garbage can) to capture condensation draining from chiller.
8. Once temperature stabilizes, load wine onto racks.
9. Periodically check and empty water from can.
I had one for a few years, then had to remove it when I moved and it’s been sitting in my garage ever since. If you want a bargain on chiller and several wine racks pre-assembled, write me at arsanlupin at yahoo dot com.
After you build the wine closet- consider adding a Tuscan landscape or randomly placed wine labels on tumbled marble tiles.. Your door could be glass so you are looking thru it at this fabulous wall display
