Wine Glasses,I’m registering for my wedding and don’t know much about crystal wine glasses. I hear higher lead content is better, but that’s all I know.

Yes…the higher the lead content the better, but it is also softer and more susceptible to stains if you drink red wine. You also should not put fine crystal in the dishwasher as it will make it cloudy.
It is all a matter of style. I always advize couples not to go with trends, as your choices are supposed to last a lifetime ( or at least as long as the marriage lasts).

If you have picked out a china pattern, take the place setting to the crystal department and put them together on a display table
and see if you like it. If the china is in a different store, buy the place setting and take it to where the crystal is sold, and when you decide, just return the place setting.

For durability and style, Waterford is a good choice, as they have several styles and patterns that can match most china patterns. Try to stay away from Calvin Klien, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang, as they discountinue patterns when sales go down and then you won’t be able to get replacements a few years later. (this goes for china as well).
    Congratulations and good luck !

what ever looks good to you is what you choose if the lead content is high or low but if i was you i would choose the glasses with the low content of lead

just put down WATERFORD…you wont go wrong….

Yes higher lead content is better for the glass itself….the most important question is what style? Are you serving red, white, champagne more often? There are so many different glasses for different beverages…..pick your style and then your glass. Good Luck and Congrats on the wedding!

Unless you plan on re-selling them one day, you shouldn’t worry about that. You should just pick what you like. You are going to have to live with it for a while.

But, don’t put them in the dishwasher.

If you are mostly concerned about style, go with whatever pattern matches your china. If you are concerned about drinking wine, get Riedel or Spiegalau in whatever shape is most appropriate to the wine you drink more often. The Vinum series from Riedel is very nice and priced comparable to cut crystal.

A true wine drinker never uses a cut crystal glass, but I do realize that’s the look most people want on their table. If these are for every day use, don’t get crystal at all. It’s a pain to take care of.

Just pick a pattern that appeals to you.

I recommend that you get Riedel wine glasses because they are high quality and designed to make the wine taste better. The Vinum series Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Chardonnay make a nice collection.
