I love wine. Especially nice sharp dry ones. Red or white wine, but I don’t know too much about them and how to know what i’m buying. So if anyone of you guys/girls can help me out I want to buy about 20 bottles of various wines at about – a bottle. Any suggestions of things that I would find at my local supermarket would be helpful, and we also have a wine shop in town that can get specialty stuff. Thank you for your time.

Try R. Mondavi, V. Sattui, Boeger, Silver Oak Cellars and some of the other CA wineries. They should all have websites. I particulary like merlots, barberas, zinfandels, and cabernets. I also happen to like a good chianti like Antinori Classico from Italy. I think French wines are overrated and overpriced. There are starting to be available some good wines from Chile. Go to your wineshop and see if they have tastings. Most good wineshops will let you try before you buy and are a wealth of information if you ask questions. Good hunting!

new zealand is making a bunch of really solid shirazs right now, i would recommend checking those out. also, yellowtail, an australian vineyard, makes some very tasty wines.
really, i would recommend going in and asking somebody. most grocery stores these days have a specialist in their wine section that can help you out. if not, go the the specialty shop and get some pointers. their wine will likely cost more though.

That depends on where you live. I live in the Midwest and found that wines from Black Star Farms in Michigan are very good. Their late harvest Riesling is very good!

You can’t go wrong with Sebastiani & Franciscan Cabs. The 2005 Muldabosch Sauv. Blanc is a phenomenial white for the price. You can get some nice dessert wines (R.L. Buller, Whisker’s Blake) for $15 instead of paying through the nose for a Fonseca. Bentley Lane Pinot Noirs are fantastic as well.

Rosemount Estate Shiraz is great, and it’ll save you a little money since it is a mere $9.
I also enjoy Chianti. Go to a few Italian restaurants; some have samplers of their wines.
