Wine storage,I feel like a dumbass asking this because I know (unopened) bottled wine doesn’t go bad, but what about boxed wine? I moved about 6-7 years ago, and I just ran across a box in my storage room in the basement that had a 5L box of Almaden White Grenache wine in it (the wine is inside a bag). I had this wine at my old place, and I was wondering, can I enjoy it tonight or should I throw it out and buy myself some new stuff? I think it’s fine but I want to make sure since it’s been sitting in a box for so many years. Thanks for your answers!

Boxed wines only have about a 12 month shelf life (that will vary slightly from brand to brand). I would saying throwing it out is the best idea, I would be amazed if it was any good after all this time. And there’s nothing wrong with boxed wines, they are very easy to store and serve! They are just as good as what you buy in a bottle for that price range!

Boxed wine was never any good to begin with.

THROW IT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! If it hasn’t been opened, then it won’t necessarily be spoiled by oxidation, but wine of poorer quality (aka boxed) isn’t intended for maturation/ageing. All of the fruit qualities will be gone with undesirable alcohol or harsh flavours left. If you are really desperate (and have no palate), then try it but if it smells bad, like vinegar or anything then throw it out. If it is brown instead of red then throw it out too. Good luck and let us know if you actually try it, it sounds funny

It starts out bad and gets worse. It probably won’t be vinegar, but it’s well past its prime. Give it a try. It won’t kill you.
